A ha-ha is a type of hidden fence designed to create the illusion that a garden is integrated with the natural landscape beyond its borders. It was a central feature of the private landscape parks installed on English estates during the 18-century. Through this device, the viewer could feel a connection to nature, while simultaneously imagining dominion over it.
