“A proxy
for my body
in a constant state of prayer
prostrated to the earth,
looking for forgiveness,
looking to heal and be healed”

When we moved onto a piece of land with woods and a meadow further North from Boston, it was beautiful but loaded with old trash. I found a piece of rusted rebar partially buried in the woods and I fell in love with its swooping energy. I thought about the many snakes slithering around here, their bellies to the earth, picking up vibrations, tasting the air with their tongues. I want to be like those snakes, paying careful attention to surroundings because life depends on it, feeling the ground intimately with their skin, finding shelter in dark spaces in the earth, and warmth on the rocks in the sun. Most of all I love their low position to the ground because it reminds me of the most humble, prayerful gesture of prostration.
