Cradled is a sculpture formally bound by the cohesion of circular and right-angled geometry, evoking the synchronic movement of light energy as both wave and particle. Though visually disparate, the ceramic and plexiglass materials are aligned by the precise heat and chemistry required to produce them. The fountain harnesses the sun’s energy using a solar powered pump to allow water to eddy along its round and straight edges, and the plexiglass selectively filters sunlight, casting projections of chromatic light as illuminated shadows. Like its subtle movement of water and light, Cradled encourages movement of its audience, where viewers can look through the plexi’s cutout shapes to frame the fountain, as well as the surrounding landscape.
