Built from welded steel, Dismembered Lighthouse transforms the lighthouse from a vertical monument into a fractured horizontal path. A homage to the Blackwell Island (now Roosevelt Island) Lighthouse, which was constructed by inmates of the Blackwell Island penitentiary and is no longer in use.
A lighthouse is designed to emit a beam of light, guiding ships through darkness, distance, and danger.
