George Sawyer is a second-generation Windsor chairmaker whose work is rooted in the grace, functionality, and vernacular of traditional American furniture. With a focus on sustainable craftsmanship, he explores the relationship between traditional green woodworking techniques and contemporary lives and welcomes the viewer to a new experience within the familiar. Built using locally quarried granite salvaged from an artist’s home, “Homeward” demonstrates the lasting impact of human efforts, as this granite stone seeks a new purpose after its building is gone.
