Our bodies are ecosystems; our buildings are landscapes. We are intertwined. I merge biomorphic copper forms with pipes to highlight the blurring of bodily and architectural infrastructure. This deliberate blurring, between the familiar and the strange, offers space for understanding ourselves as a part of a larger, interconnected whole. “Molting in the Current” is part of my ongoing Molting series, which centers on the process of electroforming copper. I am drawn to this method because it embodies a tension between growth and decay. On one hand, there is an erosion as copper particles erode from the anode, and on the other hand a growth as the cathode (the sculpture) receives these particles. These natural cycles of proliferation are present in nature as well, especially with fungi and lichen. The electroforming bath becomes a kind of alchemical womb, a milky solution where form emerges slowly over time. I check on the sculpture daily, feeding it bits of copper and brightening solution, watching as it develops in this cocoon of labor and transformation. Through this lens, I invite viewers to glimpse the hidden systems that cradle, contain, and constrain us.
